Appointment Information

1. Do I need a referral to see Dr. Tara Sedlak?
Yes. Your Family Physician can provide a referral for you if you need to see a Cardiologist.

2. How do I make an appointment with Dr. Tara Sedlak?
Once you have a referral, Dr. Tara Sedlak’s office will be in contact with you to schedule an appointment.

5. What are Dr. Tara Sedlak’s hours?
We are open most weekdays but closed statutory holidays. Our first appointment is at 8 a.m. and our last appointment is at 4 p.m.

6. How long will my appointment last?
Your first appointment with Dr. Tara Sedlak will usually be 35-45 minutes depending on the complexity of your case. Follow-up appointments are usually 15-30 minutes.

7.What should I bring to the appointment?
Your doctor will have already faxed a referral letter with your background medical history to Dr. Tara Sedlak prior to your appointment. Dr. Tara Sedlak also has access to the list of medications you have filled at pharmacies in BC. Feel free to bring anything else that will provide Dr. Tara Sedlak with a better understanding of your health, including questions!

8. What is your policy on missed appointments?
Missed appointments are NOT covered by your insurance (including CareCare insurance) and you will be billed for the full fee (usually $175). You will not be seen until this fee is paid and prescription refills will not be provided. In addition, if you miss your appointment, you will be placed at the bottom of the office’s waitlist. If you are unable to attend you appointment, you must call Dr. Tara Sedlak’s assistant, providing a minimum 24 hour notice (for Monday appointments, you must call by noon the preceding Friday).

9. How long does it take to get an appointment?
Appointments are based on a first-come, first serve basis (unless preceded by urgency). The usual wait time for an appointment is 3-6 months.

 

General

2. What certifications and licences does Dr. Tara Sedlak hold?
Dr. Tara Sedlak is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (F.R.C.P.C.). She is certified as both an specialist in Internal Medicine and Cardiology and holds a licence to practice medical in British Columbia. She has also worked in the state of California. Dr. Tara Sedlak’s fellowship in Women’s Heart Health makes her the only certified physician in Canada with formal training in women’s heart health.

3. What types of patients does Dr. Tara Sedlak see?
Dr. Tara Sedlak has a General Cardiology practice and sees most all types of patients with heart problems. She has a sub-interest in women’s heart disease, in particular microvascular heart disease. Heart attacks and strokes remain the number one killer of Canadian women.

4. Does Dr. Tara Sedlak have admitting privileges to hospitals in Vancouver?
Yes, Dr. Tara Sedlak works with the Vancouver Coastal Health Authority and can admit patients to hospitals. Her primary worksite is at Vancouver General Hospital.

5. Is Dr. Tara Sedlak affiliated with a group of Cardiologists?
Yes, Dr. Tara Sedlak works with the largest group of Cardiologists in Vancouver, the Laurel Cardiology group, based at Vancouver General Hospital.

2. Where do I park?

We do not provide parking validation. Ensure that you arrive a minimum of 30 minutes prior to your appoint so that you can relax and prepare any questions you may have.

3. What is the nearest bus stop?
If you exit your bus on West Broadway at Oak Street, you can walk south about 5 minutes to our office on the 9th floor of the Diamond Centre, next to Vancouver General Hospital.

 

Insurance Coverage

1. What type of insurance does Dr. Tara Sedlak’s office accepts?
Dr. Tara Sedlak’s office accept coverage from Health Insurance BC (“Carecards”) for covered services. ICBC, WorkSafe BC, Department of National Defense, and RCMP coverage are also accepted. Some services are not covered (e.g., phone prescription refill requests, disability notes, illness notes, insurance forms, medical letters [other than referral responses]). If you need clarification regarding clinic fees, please ask Dr. Tara Sedlak’s assistant before your appointment.

 

Other

1. I am running out of medication, how do I get a refill?
Refills are provided by appointment only. Contact your pharmacist should you require an emergency supply as they may be able to offer you this service. We are unable to authorize telephone/facsimile refill requests without a recent (in the last 30 days) appointment.
